Alonzo Victor Lewis was encouraged by Charles M. Russell to pursue studies in art. Lewis headed West after his graduation from the Art Institute of Chicago. He established a studio in Seattle in 1920 and specialized in sculpture as well as oil painting. Lewis' sculpture of Abraham Lincoln was dedicated in Spokane in 1930 after twelve years of fundraising efforts.
