Biographical History

Larzelere, born on Jan. 20, 1866 in Delaware County (Iowa). His family lived in Quincy (Mich.) where he graduated from high school. He also graduated from the State Normal School in Ypsilanti (Mich.) in 1889. After serving as the superintendent of schools in Lowell (Mich.) for four years, he earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan (1895). Afterwards, he was superintendent of schools in Jefferson (Ohio) for four years. In 1900, he earned a M.A. from Harvard. He came to Central State Normal College, now CMU, to teach history in 1901, remaining there until he retired in June 1939. He wrote and was noted for his books on Michign history and government. Two of his textbooks were used by the Michigan public school system: "The Government of Michigan" and "The Story of Michigan". Copies of both are available in the Clarke Historical Library. He was active in Mt. Pleasant (Mich.) civic affairs. He married Lorena Barber (1864-1941) in 1891. They had two sons. He died on Jan. 20, 1946, his 80th birthday.
