Biographical History
Robert Milledge Charlton (1807-1854) was born in Savannah, Georgia, the son of Judge Thomas Usher Pulaski Charlton and Emily (Walter) Charlton. He was a lawyer, a member of the Georgia Legislature, U. S. District Judge, Judge of the Eastern Judicial Circuit, U. S. Senator, and Mayor of Savannah, Georgia. In 1838, he published a volume entitled Georgia Reports. In addition to his law practice, Robert, with his brother Dr. Thomas Jackson Charlton, published a volume of poems in 1839. He was also author of Sketches of Court and Circuit Life.
