Biographical History
Edward Franklin Buchner was a professor of education and philosophy at The Johns Hopkins University.
He was born in Paxton, Illinois, Sept. 3, 1868, and received his Ph. D. from Yale University in 1893. After teaching at the University of Alabama, Buchner was appointed professor of education at Hopkins in 1908, a position he held until 1929. Buchner organized the education department at Hopkins, and he was instrumental in the creation of two new degrees, master of education and doctor of education. Buchner wrote widely on educational subjects and was associated with societies whose focus was education. Edward Franklin Buchner died in Munich, Aug. 22, 1929.
