Biographical History
St. Paul's Church, currently located at 466 High Street in Newark, New Jersey, was founded in 1852 as a chapel with a schoolhouse. The original property, a farm, was given to this Episcopalian parish as a gift of Jeremiah C. Garthwaite. In 1856, efforts were made to build a church, which was finally completed in 1889. The total cost of the new church was $78,248.
