Fraenkel was a New York City lawyer who served on the American Civil Liberties Union's Board of Directors and as its general counsel.
Lawyer. Attended Harvard College; LL. D. Columbia, 1911. Practiced law in N.Y.C.; general counsel to A.C.L.U. 1954-1977. Closely identified with issues of academic and artistic freedom and the right of free speech. Author of more than 100 articles and several books, including The Sacco-Vanzetti Case and The Supreme Court and Civil Liberties.
