Biographical History

Guillermo Luis Guitarte was an Argentinean-born philologist and linguist. In 1949, he received his doctorate secondary education with a specialty in language arts from the University of Buenos Aires and pursue postdoctoral studies in Spanish philology at the University of Madrid for the next three years. After teaching in universities in Argentina and Columbia, Guitarte relocated to United States as a visiting lecturer at Harvard University in 1963. The following year, he became a faculty member of Boston College's Romance Languages Department. His primary field was historical linguistics but he also taught courses in Latin American literature, Spanish medieval literature and Spanish philology. He died on April 9, 2000.
