Biographical History

Steffi Winters was born in Eisenach, brought up in Berlin, and later emigrated to the United States.

Rudolf Schönfeld, uncle of Steffi Winters, was born in Breslau (today Wrocław, Poland) in 1893 and served in the German army in the first World War, where he was stationed in Syria and later was interned by the British as a prisoner of war in Cairo. Documents list his profession as sales representative. He married Elisabeth Bloch, born in Strasbourg in 1907, and settled in Berlin. Elisabeth and Rudolf had two sons, Gert and Fred (also called Fredi or Redi). During the Nazi dictatorship, Rudolf had to perform forced labor at Siemens, and the family, unable to emigrate, was deported to Auschwitz in 1943, where they were murdered.

Lucie Meyer, born Steinberg, was Steffi Winters' aunt.
