Biographical History
Australian artist. The fourth child of Hans Heysen, Nora studied art in Adelaide and London. After returning to Australia in 1937, the following year she became the first woman to win the Archibald Prize. In 1943 Heysen was appointed an official war artist, commissioned to depict the women's war effort. In 1993 she received the Australia Council's award for Achievement in the Arts and was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) in 1998.
