Biographical History
Educator and administrator Paul Meek was the Executive Officer, Dean and Chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Martin from 1934 to 1967. Later in his career he served as Vice President of the University of Tennessee and as President of the Tennessee College Association. Dr. Meek's tenure as chief administrator lasted 33 years, during which the university grew from a small junior college of 87 students to a four year institution with an enrollment of over 3,000. It was under his tutorship that the university successfully rebounded from the economic difficulties of the Great Depression and the declining enrollments during the period of the Second World War. He was also very influential in the construction and development of many of the campus buildings built during the 1950's and 1960's.
