Biographical History
Founded in 1865, Lehigh is a research university located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It is a coeducational, nondenominational, private university, home to more than 4,700 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students. The university offers majors and programs in four colleges: The College of Arts and Sciences, The College of Business and Economics, The College of Education and The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science.
The building, completed in 1929, was a gift of James Ward Packard, '84. Packard invented the automobile bearing his name, and was a trustee of Lehigh University.
The laboratory was completed in 1910 and was used originally for mining engineering. It is named after Eckley B. Coxe, a trustee of Lehigh University.
