In the twentieth century, wool marketing associations were formed to promote the industry and give ranchers a stronger, collective voice in regards to wool legislation. The Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers' Association was established in 1915 with J. B. Murrah of Del Rio, Texas, selected as the first president. It was originally organized to combat sheep and goat thefts throughout the State of Texas.

Organized at Del Rio, Texas, in October, 1915 to combat a wave of sheep and goat thefts. First president was J. B. Murrah of Del Rio, Texas. Has become key organization in the promotion of various aspects of the state's wool and mohair industry. It is presently headquartered in San Angelo, Texas.
