Biographical History

George Bromfield Jones (March 3, 1895-January 1980) and Helen Ashe Jones (March 10, 1900-July 26, 1992) were members of the St. Bartholomew's Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They were married in 1927. George Jones was born in Jamaica and was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1942. In addition to serving in the Massachusetts National Guard, 372nd Regiment, Company L, and playing clarinet in the 3rd Battalion, 372nd Infantry Massachusetts National Guard band, George Jones worked at Liggett's Pharmacy for most of his career. Jones was also active in various African American fraternal organizations, including the Free and Accepted Masons and the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks of the World.
