George Crook was an Army officer during the late 1800s who was best known for his Indian fighting in the Pacific Northwest and Southwest.
George Crook was an Army officer, best known for his Indian fighting in the Pacific Northwest and Southwest.
Officer in the volunteer service and regular army from Dayton, Ohio, who served in the Civil War and Indian Wars in the American West.
U.S. Army General, participated in Indian campaigns before and after the Civil War. From 1871 to 1875, he administered the military effort to force the Apaches onto reservations in Arizona. From 1882 to 1886, he led expeditions to bring Geronimo's band onto the San Carlos Reservation.
Major general, U.S. Army; served during Civil War and in Arizona and New Mexico, where in addition to defending settlers, defending Apaches from illegal squatters and miners; known as America's most successful Indian fighter, but also known for his fair and honest dealings with the Indians.
American army general who fought in the American Civil War and participated in the campaigns against the Indians in the Amercian West.
George Crook collected reel-to-reel tapes of jazz, including many recordings were never released commercially. There are also a large number of recordings from BBC radio. Of particular note are 400 tapes containing some 1200 unreleased Duke Ellington performances.
