Biographical History
The Van Diemen's Land Company, which still exists, was established in 1825, with the purpose of developing North Western Tasmania.
Established by Royal Charter as a pastoral and agricultural concern with its headquarters in London. It was granted 350,000 acres in North West Tasmania and was responsible for the exploration and early development of that area. It had several subsidiary companies. These records were received from both the London and Burnie offices of the Company, which still exist.
