Biographical History

Gordon Fisk Blood (b. 1919-Washington, DC), Major General in the U.S. Air Force, attended flying school as an aviation cadet at Kelly Field, Texas, and received pilot wings and a commission as second lieutenant in March 1941. During World War II he was assigned to the 44th Air Base Squadron, the 396th Bombardment Squadron, the 27th Bombardment Squadron, and the 36th Bombardment Squadron in Alaska. At the end of the War General Blood was transferred to Japan and assigned to Headquarters V Fighter Command in Kyushu, and later to 5th Air Force in Nagoya as an operations officer. Later he served in Korea as commander of the 48th Fighter Bomber Group and chief of the Combat Operations Division, 5th Air Force. In Korea he flew 70 combat missions. Following a number of U.S.-based positions, he was transferred to Germany and served as commander of the 36th Tactical Fighter Wing and deputy for operations, 4th Allied Tactical Air Force, a NATO command. Beginning in 1967 General Blood served at Headquarters, 7th Air Force, in the Republic of Vietnam. He retired from Air Force service in February 1975.
