Biographical History
Eugene Casserly (November 13, 1820-June 14, 1883) was an Irish-American journalist and lawyer. He moved to San Francisco, Calif., in 1850 and published the Public Balance, the True Balance, and the Standard; elected State printer in 1851; retired from journalism and resumed the practice of law; elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1869, to November 29, 1873.
Solomon Heydenfeldt (1816-1890) was the first Jewish justice of the Supreme Court of California in the United States. He was elected by direct vote of the people and served from 1852 to 1857.
