Weld was Governor of Western Australia 1869-1875. Bishop Salvado established the Benedictine monastery at New Norcia.

Governor of Western Australia 1869-1875. In 1843 he migrated from England to New Zealand where he engaged in cattle and sheep raising. He eventually became Premier of New Zealand in 1864, but had to resign in 1865 because of ill health.
