Biographical History
Educators. Following graduation from College of Pacific (1928), Elliott Taylor became assistant to President Samuel Irwin of Colegio Internazionale Monte Mario, a Protestant secondary school in Rome (1928-29). Irwin and Taylor began Albanian American Institute in Kavaje, Albania (1930). Burta Beers graduated from College of Pacific (1929) and studied social work at Bryn Mawr College (1929-1930) before joining Elliott Taylor in Albania (1930). Together they taught at Albanian American Institute, traveled, and, in summer, studied at University of Vienna (1930-1935). Returning to United States, Elliott Taylor worked as fund raiser for Near EastFoundation, New York City (1935-1938). Taylors moved to Reedley (Calif.) where Elliott Taylor counseled in secondary schools, ultimately becoming Dean of Reedley Junior College (1938-1947). Hired as College of Pacific's first Dean of Admissions, Taylor developed student recruitment and academic credit for overseas travel programs. Taylors traveled widely in conjuction with latter activity, photographing seldom-visited world sites. Illinois Western University gave Elliott Taylor honorary doctorate (1963). He retired in 1972.
