Hatch was the circuit clerk of Pike County, Illinois (1841-1848), a state legislator (1851-1852), and Illinois secretary of state (1857-1865).
Republican Secretary of State of Illinois from 1857 to 1865, friend of Abraham Lincoln, and married to Julia Enos, daughter of Springfield pioneer resident, Pascal Enos. Had also served as clerk of the circuit court of Pike county, 1841-1848, and Illinois legislator, 1851-1852. Was a farmer and land owner.
