Biographical History

Auguste de Châtillon was a French painter, sculptor, and poet. Unable to make a living in France, he moved to the United States, settling in New Orleans, La., between 1844 and 1851. While in the United States he wrote poetry and painted a scene of the Battle of Resaca de la Palma (May 9, 1846), one of Zachary Taylor's victories in the Mexican War.
