Biographical History

Nonie Swanson, the eighth child of wheat farmer A. J. Friedrich, was born in Hartline, Washington, in 1919. Following high school, she attended Eastern Washington Normal School (now Eastern Washington University), where she met and married Jack (Victor H.) Swanson in 1939. The couple lived and taught in Ione, Washington, until 1941, when they moved to Seattle to work at the Boeing Aircraft Corporation for the duration of World War II. In 1946, the Swansons traveled to Saint Paul Island, Alaska, where they taught school for two years. In 1948, they returned to Washington State and taught in Shelton until their retirement.
