Biographical History

Born in 1878, Virgil N. Lott worked as both a journalist and writer, covering the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. In 1909, he quit his job with the Galveton Daily News and established The Monte Christo Hustler, an early English language newspaper in south Texas. Six months later, Lott moved to Mission and founded the Mission Times in 1911. He then moved to Roma and worked for the U. S. Immigration Service and the U. S. Customs Service. After retiring in 1949, Lott wrote several historical narratives such as The Kingdom of Zapata, People and Plots on the Rio Grande, and "The Rio Grande Valley." He died in 1960.
