Biographical History
The Family Service Association of Indianapolis was founded in 1835 as the Indianapolis Benevolent Society, a private charity. By 1922 it had become the Family Welfare Society. It took on its current name in 1945 to reflect a shift in emphasis to family counselling and education. The F.S.A. has been associated with a number of Indianapolis charities, including the Charity Organization Society, the Society of Friendly Visitors, the Social Service Exchange, and the Legal Aid Bureau.
