Biographical History

After surrender terms were met by Confederate forces at Appomattox, Va. on April 9, 1865. Lee expressed concern that his men have some written evidence of their surrender. On April 10, 1865, thousands of blank parole forms were printed for the surrendering men. The parole documents included the name of the individual, his regiment, and his commanding officer's name.
