Lawyer and politician William Doddridge McFarlane (1894-1980) was born in Greenwood, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas (UA). After serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, McFarlane earned his B.A. and LL.B. from Kent Law School in Chicago. He practiced law in Graham, Texas and served in the Texas House of Representatives (1923-1927) and the Texas Senate (1927-1939). In 1933, McFarlane was elected as a Democrat to represent Texas’ 13th district in the U.S. House of Representatives (1933-1939). He later served as the special assistant to the Attorney General in the Department of Justice (1941-1966).
