Biographical History
John W. Pollock was born in Penn. on March 1, 1919 and enlisted in the Army at Spokane, Wash. on April 3, 1941. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried, had completed two years of high school and working as a lumberman. Pollock joined the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Lewis, Wash. and also served at Camp Hale (Colo.) and Camp Swift (Tex.). He was with Companies A, L and C of the 87th Infantry Regiment; Headquarters and the Service Companies of 86th Infantry Regiment; and Company G of the 85th Infantry Regiment. During combat operations in Italy, Pollock was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his actions at the Apennines and the Po Valley in April 1945. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Pollock died in Cortland, Ohio on May 23, 2001.
