Biographical History

Historical note: Commission established by Mayor Don Hummel in 1955 to encourage mutual respect and understanding among all ethnic and religious groups, and to discourage all manner and manifestations of discriminatory practice. Although the dates of the Commission corresponded to the African American civil rights movement, the group also advocated for women, Mexicans, Jewish citizens and other minority or underrepresented people.
