Biographical History

Thomas E. Tutt was president of the Third National Bank in St. Louis, Missouri. Andrew J. Smith was born around 1838, probably in Rochester, New York. In December 1873 he was appointed surveyor general of Montana and served until his removal in September 1877. In January 1878 he bought a sheep ranch in the Smith River Valley. He remained there for 5 years until he was appointed superintendent of the soldiers home in Togus, Maine. After two years there he was appointed to head the soldiers home in Leavenworth, Kansas. Andrew J. Smith was married to Kate M. (born c.1840). They had one daughter Maud, born c.1871.
