"Oglethorpe's Regiment" is the more common term for General James Oglethorpe's 42nd Regiment of Foot. James Oglethorpe left Savannah for England to raise an army for the protection of the colony. The 42nd Regiment of Foot formed, using troops from six British companies, and returned to Savannah with Oglethorpe on August 25, 1737. They were disbanded in 1749.
