Biographical History

Electra Marshall Carlin (1913-2000), the owner of the Carlin Art Gallereis, was a member of a pioneer Fort Worth family. She attended the University of Oklahoma, Beaver College in Pennsylvania, and George Washington University in Washington, D. C., where she met her husband, H. Lee Carlin. After his death she returned to Fort Worth and opened one of the first private art galleries. She operated the galleries from 1959 to 1987, exhibiting the works of nationally know artists such as Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth as well as those of Fort Worth artists like Emily Guthrie-Smith and James Blake. She was also one of the gallery owners in the Southwest to exhibit and sell Inuit art.
