Biographical History

George Henry Badger (1859-1953) was born in Charlestown, MA and was raised in the Swedenborgian faith. He received an A.B. from Williams College in 1883. He married Alice S. Hamilton and they had two daughters, Evelyn Payton and Elizabeth A. Badger. He was at the Andover Theological Seminary from 1883-1884 and in 1886 he received his S.T.B. from the Harvard Divinity School. He became a convert to Unitarianism, and in 1886 he was ordained as the Unitarian pastor in South Natick, Massachusetts, where he stayed until 1892. He also served pastorates in New Jersey, Texas, and Florida, ending his ministerial services in 1936. His literary accomplishments include the compilation of the Isles of Shoals hymnal, Candlelight, and a collection of essays, The Water Star. Badger also founded The New Unitarian and served as editor of this publication for ten years.
