Biographical History
The University Council of the University of Florida was created in 1927 to act as an executive committee. The council served as an advisory cabinet and budgetary committee and as a clearing house for the college faculties and standing committees. The council met once a month and included the President, Vice President, deans, and the Registrar. The council was abolished in 1945.
The 1929 University Constitution listed four functions for the University Council. First, the council served as a clearing house for the college faculties, the general faculty, and the standing committees. Second, it stood as an ad interim executive committee. Third, it served as an advisory cabinet to the president. Finally, it performed as a budgetary committee. The council met once a month and included the President, Vice President, the deans, and the Registrar. The President acted as chair and the Registrar as secretary. In 1932, the responsibilities of the council were reduced to cabinet and budgetary functions. The council was abolished in 1945 and was superseded by the Council of Academic Deans (see Records of the Council of Academic Deans ) and an administrative council.
