Biographical History

Samuel Russell Warren was born in Tiverton, Rhode Island, on March 29, 1809, and later worked as an organ builder for Thomas Appleton in Boston. He was the brother of Thomas D. Warren. By 1836, he was working in Montréal, and in 1879, formed a partnership with two sons: Samuel Prowse Warren and Charles Sumner Warren, as S.R. Warren & Sons. The founder, Samuel Russell Warren, died in Montréal on July 30, 1882, but the firm was continued by his sons. About 1880, the firm relocated to Toronto, and in 1896, was sold to Dennis W. Karn and became the Karn-Warren Organ Co.
