Biographical History
Presbyterian minister and pastor of Presbyterian Church of Beech Island, S.C. near Augusta, Ga. A native of Massachusetts, Hopkins also pastored a church in Troy (N.Y.) and later returned to Massachusetts where he became a businessman and politician.
Presbyterian clergyman, abolitionist, businessman, and Massachusetts state legislator; resided at Northampton, Mass., 1842-1872 where his residnce was used as a "station" of the "underground railroad"; m. 1: Sarah Bennett; 2.: Charlotte Frelinghausen Allen in 1841.
