Biographical History

Soldier and administrator. Commissioned to the Royal Engineers and in 1849 was appointed comptroller of convicts in Western Australia with responsibility for public works.

Controller General of Convicts in Western Australia. Arrived in 1850, bringing the first convicts to W.A. On his return to England in 1863 appointed Surveyor General of Prisons, then in 1869 Chief Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. Sir Joshua Jebb (1793-1863) was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Convict Prisons in Great Britain.
