Biographical History

Originally known as East Hinsdale, Floral Park took its name in the 1880s at the suggestion of John Lewis Childs, who owned a large flower and seed business in the village. Childs distributed seed catalogs throughout the world and published a gardening journal called "The Mayflower." He became the first president of the Village of Floral Park when it was incorporated in 1908.
