Biographical History
Turner was born in Melbourne where he attended Scotch College and theSchool of Mines. He travelled in Europe and South Africa, and served with the British army during World War I. By 1918 Turner had published two volumes of verse and became recognized as a member of the Georgian group ofwriters. Turner became literary editor of the London DAILY HERALD and THESPECTATOR.
Walter James Turner was an English poet and music critic.
Poet, born and educated in Melbourne. Studied in Europe, served in the First World War, subsequently literary editor of the Spectator.
Walter Turner was educated at Scotch College, Melbourne, but from the age of seventeen he lived principally in England where he established a reputation as a writer of poetry, fiction and drama. His writing shows little influence of his Australian background.
Born and educated in Melbourne, Walter James Turner emigrated to London in 1907 to become a writer. He served in World War I, and achieved success in literature as a writer, music critic, drama critic, and editor. He is probably best remembered for his poetry, a skillful blend of philosophical perspective and Modernist styling, often exploring the connections between art and religion.
