Biographical History
Conger was born in Genoa, New York in 1884. He attended the Union Theological Seminary, Cornell University, and Columbia University from which he received his Ph.D. in 1922. He worked as a minister before the First World War and then became an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Minnesota in 1920, serving as chairman of the Department of Philosophy beginning in 1942. He was a specialist in comparative religion and wrote numerous books. After retirement from the Minnesota in 1952, he taught at Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Calcutta, India.

George Conger was born in Genoa, New York and raised in Groton, New York. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and held degrees from Cornell University (A.B. Class of 1907) and Union Theological Seminary. He attended a number of universities in Europe. He wrote several books on philosophy and was a specialist in comparative religion. He was particularly interested in Eastern religions and cultures, and visited Asian countries many times. Conger joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 1920, and retired in 1952. After his retirement he taught at Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Calcutta, India.
