Elrie Robinson was born in Alvarado, Tex., on May 17, 1883 and arrived in New Orleans in 1906. He first married May E. Leake, editor and publisher of the St. Francisville True Democrat, which she and W.W. Leake had founded in 1893. Robinson joined her in publishing the newspaper in 1908 and became sole editor and publisher upon his wife's death in 1925. He changed the paper's name to the St. Francisville Democrat in 1928. Robinson married Margaret Wood in 1927, was an unsuccessful candidate for the Louisiana Legislature in 1928, and was a delegate to Democratic national conventions (1928-1944). He was a recognized expert on old fonts and a consultant on the reproduction of old type faces. Robinson authored several pamphlets on early West Feliciana history and remained editor and publisher of the newspaper until his death on February 3, 1955.
