Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Emergency Medical Project

The Intermountain Regional Medical Program was established in 1967 as part of the federal Regional Medical Program. The University of Utah served as the grantee institution and kept the Program's records. In 1972 the IMRP received a grant from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare to fund the planning and implementation of a state-wide emergency medical system. This grant was phased out in 1973. In order to continue this work, the IMRP received a grant in 1974 from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for the establishment of multi-community emergency medical networks which would provide central telephone numbers to be used in an emergency (911 system). The Foundation grant ended June 30, 1977, with the work being continued by Utah state and local government agencies.
