Major General (MG) William S. Graves was the Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces, Siberia. He was stationed at Camp Dix, NJ in 1921.
William Sidney Graves (b. March 27, 1865, Mount Calm, Tex.-d. Feb. 27, 1940, Shrewsbury, N.J.), Major General in the U.S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1889 and began his career with the 7th and 6th Infantry Regiments, then as an Acting Judge Advocate General, until ordered to the Philippines. In 1918, General Graves undertook command of U.S. forces in Siberia whose purpose was to protect Allied military stores in depots along the Trans-Siberian Railway, to render aid to the Czech Army stranded there, and to discourage Japanese ambitions to annex Russian territories in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. He retired from Army service in 1928.
