Biographical History
Robert Eden was born on 2 September 1804. He was educated at Westminster School and studied at Christ Church, Oxford. He was ordained as a deacon and priest by the Bishop of Gloucester in 1828 and then he served in Weston-sub-Edge in Gloucestershire and at Messing and Peldon in Essex. He became Rector of Leigh, Essex, in 1837. It was while he was in Leigh that he accepted the offer of the Scottish Episcopalian Bishopric of Moray and Ross on the death of Bishop Low, and he was consecrated at St. Paul's, Edinburgh, on 9 March 1851. During his tenure he founded the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Inverness. In 1862 he was elected primus of the Scottish Episcopalian Church in succession to Bishop Terrot. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Eden, Bishop of Moray, Ross and Caithness, died at his residence in Inverness on 26 August 1886.
