Biographical History

Claude Kirkpatrick was a Louisiana state representative from Jefferson Davis Parish. Kirkpatrick served in the Legislature from 1952 to 1960. Following his stint in the Legislature, Kirkpatrick worked for four years as Director of the Louisiana Department of Public works, ending in 1964. Kirkpatrick was a gubernatorial candidate for the 1964 Louisiana governor's race, running as an "independent democrat." Kirkpatrick was born in 1917 in Glenmora, Louisiana, and graduated from Louisiana College in Pineville. Kirkpatrick was an oil businessman prior to and following his political career. In 1967, Kirkpatrick was named hospital administrator for Baton General Hospital and was promoted to president of the hospital in 1970. He held this position until 1981, when he retired. Kirkpatrick held positions in several civic and community organizations, along with being heavily involved with several Baptist organizations. In 1938, Kirkpatrick married Edith Aurelia Killgore, and together they had four children, Claude, Thomas, Edith, and Charles. He passed away on January 14, 1997, at the age of 79.
