Roy C. Gamble (1887-1972) was a painter from Detroit, Mich.
Gamble, a painter, was born in Detroit in 1887 and died there in 1972. He studied under Joseph Gies and John P. Wicker at the Detroit Academy of Fine Arts; at the Art Students League in New York City (1909) under Robert Henri, and William Merritt Chase; and in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salons (1910-1911) and was one of a group of American painters who were strongly influenced by Impressionism. He was commissioned by the Detroit Free Press in 1914 to paint a series of six murals about early Detroit history for the new Free Press building in 1925. He also painted four governors for the Michigan State Capitol, and several justices of the Supreme Court. His portraits of other leading figure are at the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, and the Detroit Public Library. He also painted a mural for the Michigan Building in the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago in 1933. He was best known for his portraits of prominent Michigan civic and social leaders although his main interests were street scenes and landscapes.
