Biographical History
Thomas Barton was an Episcopal missionary and clergyman, and served as chaplain with Forbes' expedition against Fort Duquesne, (now Pittsburgh), during the French and Indian War.
Episcopal missionary and clergyman, of Pennsylvania.
Church of England missionary to York and Cumberland counties, Pa., during the French and Indian War.
Soon after Thomas Barton's ordination and assumption of his post in 1755, Braddock's defeat compelled him to abandon his early attempts to minister to the Indians. Barton organized his congregations in York, Huntingdon, and Carlisle for defense against Indian incursions on what was then the Pennsylvania frontier, and in 1758 joined the army as a chaplain.
