Biographical History
Snider/Dauphin, Inc. was a public relations firm established in Montgomery, Alabama in 1976 by Charles S. Snider and F. Alton Dauphin. The organization was formed as a result of their extensive experience in local, state, and national politics gained through their work on the George C. Wallace campaigns. The firm was also involved with the campaigns of other prominent politicians such as Emory Folmar, Ray Bass, and George Bush.
Prior to opening the firm, Snider and Dauphin served many years on George C. Wallace's campaign staff. Snider joined the Wallace forces in 1968 and was appointed the national campaign director in 1971. In the same year, 1971, Dauphin was appointed finance director and treasurer.
Snider and Dauphin played active roles in George C. Wallace's multiple presidential bids. While serving as governor of Alabama, Wallace ran in the 1972 presidential race as a candidate of the Democratic Party. His campaigning was cut short by an assassination attempt on May 15, 1972, which left him paralyzed and put his political career on hold.
In 1976 Wallace again entered the presidential race as a Democrat and emerged unsuccessful. Throughout the 1972 and 1976 campaigns Snider and Dauphin traveled extensively on behalf of the Wallace Campaign and were responsible for the logistics of the national operation. The pair organized Snider/Dauphin, Inc. during Wallace's 1976 campaign. In addition to handling the remainder of the unsuccessful presidential bid, the firm spent several subsequent years attempting to settle accounts and reduce the campaign debt.
