In 1988 the University of Central Florida celebrated its 25th anniversary, dated from 1963 when the university was created by the Florida legislature. The anniversary was celebrated throughout the year with multiple events culminating in a Gala Ball in November. Almost every event associated with the university that year was tied into the 25th anniversary celebration. Many different groups worked together to plan the events, most notably University Relations, the UCF Foundation, the UCF Town and Gown Council, and the Alumni Association. In addition to the Gala Ball, events included a reenactment of the original groundbreaking ceremony, a concert series, and the World's Largest Class Reunion.
