Biographical History
Marc Wilde was born in Oakland, Calif. in 1930. His early dance training was with Raoul Pause in Oakland. In 1955, he co-founded the Ballet Players' Guild which gave dancers, designers, and technicians opportunities to create works. In 1960, he co-founded, with Alan Howard, the Pacific Ballet of San Francisco and was its principal choreographer until 1973. From 1965-1969, he ran his own company, the Marc Wilde Ballet. For ten years he was the resident choreographer for the Santa Barbara Ballet and also worked with the Valerie Huston Dance Theater. He choreographed over eighty ballets and was twice the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. He died of liver cancer in 2001, age 71.
