Biographical History
Astronomer. Fellow of the Royal Society.
Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, B.A., 1848, as 36th Wrangler. He took up astronomy and was observer in the Durham University Observatory, 1849-1852. F.R.A.S., 1851. In 1853, he built a private observatory at Reigate, Surrey, and carried out much astronomical work on mapping stars and sun spots. Later he built another observatory at Churt, Surrey. F.R.S., 1860.
